This morning we visit Carcassonne, a medieval walled city. We continue south, skim past the Pyrénées and catch our first glimpse of the world-famous Mediterranean before arriving in vibrant Barcelona.

Carcassone got it's name because the city was being attacked and the enemy thought that they would "starve" the city so they would surrender. Lady Carcas devised a plan to feed the last scrap of food to a fat pig and threw the pig over the walls. The soldiers thought that if the city had a such a fat pig, it would take forever to "starve" the city out and left.  After, the city celebrated by ringing bells "Carcas sona".

On the way to the hotel, we had 45 minute rest stop where some people bought bottles of sangria and drank it in the parking lot. Classy, but fun.  Ryan said it was the first time he saw a group do that.

When we arrived in Barcelona, we had a sightseeing tour of Gaudi's Sagrada Familia Cathedral, the 1992 Complex (where Kylie Minogue's video Slow was filmed).

Hotel:
Confortel Barcelona
C/Ramón Turró 196-198 esq. C/Llacuna.

The hotel was the best ever on the tour!  It had very modern interior decorating with leather couches in the room, and offered free internet. Although it was very hard to find because so many one-way streets and many streets were closed.  When people used the taxi in Barcelona, the next day - even the taxi drivers had a hard time finding it.

Dinner that night was a cream based pea soup, fish with fries and a chocolate brownie dessert with nuts.
